The Cognac Gem | 2.81 ct Dravite Tourmaline Asscher Cut
The Cognac Rarity – 2.81 ct Dravite Tourmaline (Asscher Cut)
From the Gem-rich soils of Arusha, where miners chase after garnets, fate delivered something unexpected—an extraordinary treasure in the form of Dravite Tourmaline. Unlike the familiar tones of its tourmaline cousins, this gem carries within it a rare tapestry of hues: a rich cognac depth, interwoven with whispers of golden brown and Golden yellow undertones that shift gracefully under changing light as you orient the Gem.
This particular stone, chosen from only a handful that stirred our deepest admiration, was entrusted to the artistry of master cutters who shaped it into a 2.81 carat Asscher cut masterpiece. The Asscher cut, renowned for its precision and architectural symmetry, unveils the gem’s mysterious heart, allowing light to dance across its step-like facets with a quiet brilliance that feels both regal and intimate.
Holding this gem is like holding an autumn evening captured in crystal form—warm, grounding, yet touched with an unexpected freshness. Its rarity lies not only in its color palette but also in its story: born of chance discovery, refined through human artistry, and destined for a connoisseur who values gems that transcend mere beauty to embody a narrative of wonder.

Gemstone Cutting Style Highlights:
Why Asscher Cut?
-
Color preservation – step/emerald cuts concentrate and enhance the Tourmaline’s deep body color.
-
Weight retention – efficient for shallow or irregular Tourmaline rough, minimizing material loss.
-
Inclusion management – facet orientation allows the cleanest zones to show face-up.
-
Refined silhouette – Asscher cuts project elegance and are well-received in high jewelry.
-
Modified design – adjustments (extra facets, mixed crowns) improve brilliance and reduce windowing.
- Unique X -pattern - Hall of mirrors effect in Asscher cuts make them stand out
In essence For this Particular Gem, the Asscher cut was chosen because the rough had a beautiful alluvial hydro polished irregular silhouette, with inclusions in certain zones which had to be fashioned into a stunning Asscher after all surface inclusions were removed. Step-style faceting preserves carat weight, enhances and concentrates the rich body color, and allows cutters to orient the cleanest portions face-up. The “modified” approach improves brilliance while retaining the elegance of the Asscher cut silhouette, creating gems that balance color integrity, clarity, and refined presentation. The Hall of Mirrors effect magnifies the gem’s brilliance, enhancing its light return while transforming the deeper zones into a striking display of rich cognac tones, elevating its beauty with an aura of sophistication and depth
