Gemstone Cutting Style Highlights:
Garba Tulla sapphire would be cut in a mixed-cut oval:
-
Balances brilliance and color – the brilliant-style pavilion adds sparkle, while the step or modified crown preserves the sapphire’s rich color zoning.
-
Maximizes face-up appeal – oval shape spreads weight across the surface, making the sapphire look larger than its carat weight.
-
Adapts to zoning and pleochroism – oval orientation allows the cutter to minimize less desirable color bands and highlight the most vivid blue-teal zones.
-
Improves brilliance vs. step cuts – unlike emerald cuts, a mixed oval introduces scintillation, giving Garba Tulla sapphires more fire and consumer appeal.
-
Weight efficiency – retains good yield from rough crystal, especially elongated prismatic sapphires from Garba Tulla.
-
Versatility in jewelry – oval mixed cuts suit both classic and modern settings, making them popular with international buyers.
-
Softens inclusions – brilliant pavilion facets break up reflections of inclusions, making them less visible compared to step cuts.
-
Market familiarity – oval mixed cuts are widely recognized and in demand, ensuring easier tradeability compared to more austere emerald cuts.
-
Elegance with sparkle – offers a balance of sophistication and brilliance, positioning Garba Tulla sapphires competitively against Ceylon and Madagascar stones.
👉 In essence: A mixed-cut oval is chosen when the goal is to make a Garba Tulla sapphire lively, brilliant, and market-friendly while still honoring its unique East African colors.
